Versatile Simple Accurate Flexible Reliable |
Versatility combined with quality and productivity. Väderstad Carrier is capable of shallow tillage down to a maximum of 10cm. Carrier has a range of applications from high speed shallow cultivation of stubbles through to secondary cultivation of disced and ploughed soils.
Carrier is a multi-tasker. It is used throughout Europe as an all-purpose implement by growers who place high demands on flexibility in crop production. It is available in working widths from 3 - 12 metres and meets most needs. Versatility acquires a whole new meaning when one and the same Carrier can be used for … … stubble cultivation The most common area of work for Carrier is incorporating harvest trash into the soil. After only one or two passes, the upper 5-7 cm soil layer is completely homogenised. The secret is to maintain a high speed >12 km/h, so that the two rows of notched discs throw the soil to the side. At the same time, harvest trash is pulverised and mixed in and the soil is levelled and left ready for drilling or further tillage operations. …. straw harrowing and stubble cultivation Blockages occasionally arise in the combine harvester, causing the chopper to eject uneven heaps of straw, which have to be re-distributed. With the roomy straw harrow in place, even thick heaps of straw are gradually fed into the discs. This prevents straw pans developing in patches in the field and causing nitrogen deficiency and yield decreases in the following crop. The straw harrow is an important prerequisite for successful ploughless cropping. … furrow levelling From the very first day Carrier arrived on the market, it took up a prominent position due to its ability to level plough furrows. Carrier System Disc with Crossboard is now available, making the machine an even better implement on plough furrows. The Crossboard slices off the tops of the furrows while at the same time crushing clods. Next come the roller rings, which level the soil surface and reconsolidate the soil. … reconsolidation and rolling The heavy steel roller rings and the rubber roller are equally efficient at reconsolidating, to create an optimal degree of consolidation in the topsoil. Through their weight, they contribute to creating optimal contact between seed and soil, and the crop can germinate successfully. With the toolbar raised, Carrier can be used as a conventional roller. The entire weight of the machine is then carried by the rear roller rings, making Carrier a powerful weapon against crusts or pans. … soil cultivation and seedbed preparation Cultivation depth can be set precisely on Carrier. This property in combination with the efficient slicing action of the discs across the entire working width means that Carrier is also very suitable for soil cultivation and seedbed preparation. The mode of action of the discs allows for high speeds, so the capacity is great. The rotating movement of the discs also produces a fine tilth, which acts as a good evaporation barrier for the seed … sowing small-seeded crops With BioDrill in place, Carrier is transformed into a drill for small-seeded crops. The seed is placed at the discs and covered with soil by the roller. Working Zones Straw Harrow
A straw harrow can be fitted to the front of Carrier as an optional extra to the standard tools. This feature allows any straw and surface trash to be spread out evenly across the worked area. Anaerobic areas are eliminated, ensuring even emergence of weeds and volunteers as well as the following drilled crop. Straw Harrow is set in relation to the System Disc working depth using crank handles. The heavy duty pigtail tines work across the surface of the soil and can move large quantities of trash and chaff. They are well-spaced, however, in order to allow the straw to gradually feed through without blocking the machine. back to top Discs At the heart of Carrier are two rows of serrated conical discs with a diameter of 450mm, manufactured from the hard and durable V55 steel. The discs chop harvest trash and mix it into the upper part of the soil. They work best at high forward speeds. The front row of 450mm conical discs work best at forward speeds of around 10-15km/h. This gives full incorporation because the discs throw soil energetically to the side. As soon as the harvest trash is mixed in, biological processes set to work and the decomposition rate increases. The working depth of the discs can be adjusted steplessly during work from the tractor cab. Extremely high levels of trash can be dealt with easily and without fuss. The discs are manufactured from a very hard ‘V-55’ material and are mounted on rubber-suspension units. The combination of these properties give a phenomenal working life as well as a very low maintenance requirement during operation. Carrier uses a parallel linkage system in order to set disc working depth. The press rings control the working position by always running along the soil surface. If the discs try to ride out of hard ground, the full weight of the rings is transferred across, forcing them back in to the pre-set depth. back to top |

Consolidation The final zone of Carrier consists of a row of steel rings that firm the soil. In dry conditions in particular, it is important that soil is firmed so that germination of volunteer plants and weeds is quick and uniform. The steel rings have an aggressive profile, which works the straw and forces it into the soil surface layer to ensure optimal decomposition rate. Rubber roller gives uniform consolidation The rubber roller provides good consolidation and has low resistance, which gives a low draught requirement. This also decreases the risk of "bulldozing" on lighter soils. back to top |

Hot spots Adjustable Disc Arms Adjustable disc arms are fitted at the extremities of the System Disc front tool and allow fine tuning of the outside discs. This allows the operator to eliminate any trench that may be left behind. The Disc Arms fitted to Carrier are of a one-piece cast construction. This design features built-in strength and function way beyond any that have come before. The greaseless bearings fitted to each arm feature a cassette sealing ring that is completely impervious and prevents any soil from entering the hub. The disc is also now placed further from the arm, improving soil and trash flow as well as reducing problems in very stony conditions. Once again, function is improved and the need for regular maintenance work is reduced. back to top |

Rubber Suspension The rubber suspension allows each individual disc to rebound by up to 15 cm to avoid damage during collisions with stones. This gives good protection and extends the lifetime of discs and bearings. Rubber suspension is also used on the packer bearings in order to reduce vibration and shock loads, prolonging the lifetime of all components of the machine. back to top |

Folding Mechanism Carrier folds rearwards into three sections for road transport, giving a transport width of only 2.5 – 3.0m, regardless of working width. Folding is controlled from the tractor cab and automatic locking hooks prevent the machine from unfolding accidentally. When in the field, the tractor hydraulics are used to release the transport lock, without the driver having to leave the cab. Machine setting and preparation can take up a large proportion of the operators time. It is essential to choose a machine that can be put into work as quickly as possible upon arrival at the field. Carrier can be folded and unfolded in an instant, meaning that work can start immediately. back to top |

System Disc Crossboard The System Disc Crossboard front tool is available as an option and affords increased levelling capability of the machine. This is particularly useful where the machine is to be used as a secondary cultivator. Crossboard tines are mounted on a rotating beam, that can be controlled from the tractor cab. System Disc Crossboard is available as an option for 4.2 and 5.0m Carrier models. When fitted, it transforms the stubble cultivator into an aggressive and capable machine for breaking down and levelling plough furrows and loose soil. A perfectly fine and level seedbed can be created in a single pass, paving the way for efficient and effective follow-up operations. back to top |
