Fodder Beet Weed Control

BETASANA TRIOEnhanced weed control with unparalleled crop safety and higher yields from new BETASANA TRIO fodder beet herbicide

WEED CONTROL – THE PROBLEM

Fodder Beet Weed Control Fodder beet can produce substantial yields of high quality forage and is an excellent supplement to grass silage. However, like all beet crops, fodder beet is highly susceptible to weed competition during establishment and effective and safe weed control has been a key concern for many growers.

Beet crops are notoriously sensitive to herbicides and as such need to be treated as gently as possible, particularly during the early stages of growth. The problem is that many of the weeds that threaten the crop’s establishment and which also cause harvesting problems later on in the crop’s life are not easy to eradicate with gentle sprays. The need to get effective weed control directly conflicts with the need to ensure that crop growth is unchecked during the establishment phase as any severe check to the crop early in its life has the potential to result in reduced final crop yields. This issue is made worse by the fact that growers need to concentrate all their efforts on improving crop yields in order to combat tightening margins due to rising input costs.

WEED CONTROL – THE SOLUTION

New Betasana TRIO is a new fodder beet herbicide that uses unique formulation technology to provide the highest level of weed control with improved crop safety and significant yield increases compared to existing herbicides.

WEED CONTROL – THE SOLUTION

The novel formulation combines three highly active herbicide active ingredients that complement each other to provide rapid acting, long lasting and effective weed control in all conditions:

1. 115g/litre ethofumesate - provides long lasting residual weed control against . broad leaved weeds such as chickweed and cleavers, and grass . . weeds such as annual meadow grass. It also enhances the contact . action of other herbicides applied in the same spray treatment.
2. 75g/litre phenmedipham - reliable contact action on a wide range of weeds
3. 15g/litre desmedipham - rapid contact action with improved efficacy against key weeds and . . also aids the uptake of ethofumasate.

The Betasana TRIO formulation significantly reduces the threat of crop damage by co-formulating the three active herbicide ingredients in a unique Structured Surfactant Formulation (SSF) formulation which ensures maximum action from the herbicides, while also being much gentler on the crop and without compromising on weed control.

Betasana TRIO can be applied as soon as the majority of the crop is at the fully expanded cotyledon stage, right through to crop stage BBCH 18.

Achieve the ultimate combination of high levels of weed control combined with crop safety

The additional crop safety afforded by the Betasana Trio’s formulation allows the grower to apply 22% more active ingredient than is available in alternative 3-way mix fodder beet herbicides when used at the manufacturers recommended application rates. This is crucial not only in achieving higher levels of weed control safely in the early life of the crop, but in allowing the crop to grow unchecked to achieve maximum yields.

The effect of formulation and subsequent crop safety on final yield

UK trials have shown that crops treated with Betasana TRIO achieved an average yield increase of 1.8 T/Ha over crops treated with the standard triple ingredient herbicide.

Betasana TRIO is may be used on all soil types and is compatible with a number of additional products and is ideal for growers looking to improve their existing crop care regime – whether upgrading to a triple ingredient herbicide for the first time, or for existing multi-ingredient users who need to pack high levels of active ingredients into their herbicide programme.
